tuesday april 17th

went for a run through norrobro and to faelledparken around the lakes and back. did some homework. went into class. we learned more about the cold war, nuclear energy, and the different economic development in E. vs. W. Europe. had lunch with Gini a friend from the PCD deparment. in environmental history we talked about the growth of centralized consolidated agriculture and the industrial revolution. mass production of cotton espeically originating in Lancaster England. In Danish we talked about the Queen's birthday and news in Denmark. We mentioned the Virginia Tech massacre and how it would never happen in Denmark b/c of the different gun control laws. in danish we also practiced talking about the weather and using time expressions about stuff we did in the past (two weeks ago, etc).
I met with Gini, Amanda and Elizabeth to work on our PCD presentation about inclusion of parents, community, and other children into the specialized schools for children with special needs in London. I hung out until my class rep. meeting for danish. She told us about a trip we do next week to the places mentioned in the book Number the Stars. After that I went on a trip with 5 other PCD students to a sports club for people with special needs. we played bocci, curling and ping pong with them. families of the children with special needs were there also and there were some older people with special needs. real mix of ages. very interesting to see a different segment of the danish population. they do great work and were very friendly and welcoming to us. we're going to be in a danish newspaper and one woman from DIS was interviewed. on the bus ride back we were talking about the VA Tech massacre. Maja just couldn't understand why the US government wasn't doing more. it is so sad and must be so scaary to be on campus there now.
